By joining the biggest community of bird lovers in Australia, you can help us make a positive impact on the future of our native birdlife. The members of BirdLife Australia, along with our supporters and partners, have been powerful advocates for native birds and the conservation of their habitats since 1901.

We are also the meeting ground for everyone with an interest in birds from the curious backyard observer to the dedicated research scientist. It doesn’t matter what your interest in birds is or how much you know about them, your membership will offer you the opportunity to increase your awareness and enjoyment.

Birdlife Australia would be delighted to welcome you as a new member and we look forward to sharing our news and achievements with you throughout the coming year.

We have long relied on our community of dedicated volunteers to assist in monitoring and collecting data on Australia's birds. These days this valuable effort is called ‘Citizen Science’.

By using people power to contribute data to our knowledge of Australian birds, we are able to encompass a much wider scope than would be possible otherwise. We have two online portals that are the gateway to your important contribution as a citizen scientist.

Birdata is dedicated to our Atlas of Australian Birds project, allowing people to contribute their data directly to this enormous database. Not only is it a convenient, hassle-free way to submit data, but it allows your data  to be made instantly available to our team of researchers. You also get access to bird lists and distribution maps.

Our Citizen Science Portal, supported by the Atlas of Living Australia, is where you can contribute your observations of native birds to our Birds in Backyards program .
