By joining the biggest community of bird lovers in Australia, you can help us make a positive impact on the future of our native birdlife. The members of BirdLife Australia, along with our supporters and partners, have been powerful advocates for native birds and the conservation of their habitats since 1901.

We are also the meeting ground for everyone with an interest in birds from the curious backyard observer to the dedicated research scientist. It doesn’t matter what your interest in birds is or how much you know about them, your membership will offer you the opportunity to increase your awareness and enjoyment.

Birdlife Australia would be delighted to welcome you as a new member and we look forward to sharing our news and achievements with you throughout the coming year.

Your support can build a future for our native birds

Over 200 species of birds in Australia are considered threatened, and yet there is so much that you and BirdLife Australia can do today to give them a bright future.

For over a century, we have been a leading authority and advocate for the protection of Australia’s birds, achieved by combining scientific research, nationwide surveys, targeted actions and other activities to create real and positive outcomes.

While our conservation actions are made more effective through the dedication of tens of thousands of volunteers, we need funding to continue essential research and conservation programs in areas where our native birds most need help.

Every donation makes a positive difference. We strive to make your gift work as hard as possible for Australia’s birds.

Join our Wildbird Fund monthly donor program

To support us in our efforts and help us meet the need for a steady, ongoing source of funds, a special group of BirdLife Australia supporters formed the Wildbird Fund. This regular giving program enables us to streamline our administrative processes and reduce costs.

Importantly, your monthly gifts enable us to plan ahead, which means that when your contributions are received they go directly to where they’re needed – to our vital conservation work to protect and preserve Australia's native birds and the habitats that support them.

Join the Wildbird Fund and become a regular donor today - it is one of the best ways to support Australia’s birds.

To become a Wildbird Fund donor, you can join easily online or you can authorise BirdLife Australia to either:

  • Charge a nominated amount to your credit card each month OR
  • Direct debit a nominated amount from your bank account each month

Contributions to Wildbird Fund are tax-deductible and can be altered or cancelled at any time, with a phone call or by writing to us. A consolidated tax-deductible receipt will be forwarded at the end of each financial year.

Wildbird Fund donors are kept informed of our achievements through our regular e-News as well as our annual State of Australia's Birds report.

Fundraise for us

Want to take part in a twitchathon? Keen to take on a physical challenge and support Australia’s native birds at the same time? Looking for a memorable way to mark a special birthday or anniversary? Or perhaps you want to celebrate the life of a special person.

Whatever the reason, BirdLife Australia would be privileged to have you raise money on our behalf.

The simplest way to fundraise for us is to set up a free, personalised fundraising page on the GoFundraise website.

It’s easy to create your own page, where your friends, colleagues and family can make secure donations online. Your donors can leave messages of support on your page, and everyone can see how you're progressing towards your fundraising target. Donors get a thank-you email and receipt, and the donation is transferred automatically to BirdLife Australia.

If you need any help setting up your page, please contact us. And thank you – volunteering your time to fundraise on our behalf will help us to continue our work of protecting Australia’s birdlife and their habitats.

How to start fundraising

  1. Go to our page on the Go Fundraise website.
  2. Click the 'Create fundraising page' button.
  3. Click 'Sign up now', fill in your details, then click 'Sign up'.
  4. From the options provided, either select your fundraising event, or choose one of the personal fundraising occasions.
  5. Now, create your fundraising page by filling out the fields provided. Make sure BirdLife Australia is your nominated charity. Click 'Create Fundraising Page'. Don't worry, you can edit your page later if you need to.
  6. Preview your page to check that everything's OK.
  7. Lastly, tell everyone you know about your fundraising page. To do this, just copy the page URL (web address) and send it to all your potential donors. GoFundraise will send you some emails with other helpful suggestions.

How does my donation help the birds?

Your support helps us take actions that create positive outcomes for birds and their habitats. Donating to BirdLife Australia allows us to develop and deliver practical actions for protecting our native birds.

Every conservation problem has a solution: we successfully combine leading-edge technology with good, old-fashioned field work to safeguard Australia’s birds and their habitats.
Habitat loss, climate change and feral animal predation are real challenges to the survival of Australia’s native birds and are perils they face on a daily basis.

BirdLife Australia is working to understand and reduce these threats through a wide range of conservation programs – and we are making a difference. However, while these threats remain and our unique birdlife continues to come under pressure, we need to maintain our practical efforts to protect them.
